Even Web Hosting Gets Glitches

As an IT graduate, we were taught that a system is never 100% complete because upgrades are constantly there to have better services and to have more delighted clients. Thus, systems with minor glitches may be tolerable but not if these happen more than usual. They can simply piss off not just techie - savvy persons but also ordinary clients.

My sister had this problem when she purchased her own domain for her blogs. And, since she used the blogs for commercial reasons, the glitches simply caused her income and duty to her clients. I could be pissed off myself if the same thing happened to me. She could only write a complaint to her webhost and request for a refund, but she thought to just endure her former webhost because the domain change may compromise her blog traffic.

So, it is nice to know that there is gobbler hosting that offers cheap web hosting without compromising quality and service. They offer as low as $3.67 for unlimited disk space, domain hosting and money-back guarantee for undeserved satisfaction. Best of all, they offer reviews that can be compared side - by - side with other companies.

I normally advise my students that when they need to get a web host, it must be evaluated against these criteria: 24/7 technical support, reliability, disk storage, price, speed and positive reviews.

Teacher-Businesswoman Combined

I have been a teacher for more than 10 years. I guess boredom hit me that I decided to change my profession from the classroom arrangement to an office setup. I did struggle in my new job but I had no regrets since it made me realize what I had been been wanting to do.

Now, that I decided to resign from my office work and concentrate on my business and just go on parttime teaching, I am venturing on another environment again. Business and teaching may be a better mix this time. At least, I do what I am passionate to do and do what I have been yearning to accomplish.

My students are just as excited as I am now that I will be seeing them again.

Knowing Different Learning Styles

Conventionally in school, teaching instructions include only lecture type where only very minimal interaction among and between students and teacher.

However, studies show that students do have various learning styles, meaning one student may learn through different ways topics or skill being taught. Some may learn a skill or an idea while listening to music or watching TV. Others may want to learn in a crowded area while some may stay in a secluded room. My kid however, learns more by seeing things than just by reading it to him or story-telling.

I learn more by reading and hands-on practice otherwise theories or talk won't do good. I learn better if I stay in a secluded room or by the window or door or on top of sinks.

The following are the different learning styles:

1. Structure of Lessons - students learn with logical sequence of contents
2. Sociological - students learn through peer teaching or activities
3. Auditory - students learn better through listening like class discussion or lectures
4. Visual - Students learn through various ocular simulation like graphs, maps, and etc.
5. Tactile - Students learn through hands-on activities.

Teaching Values Too

In my more than 10 years of teaching, I was recently condemned by a student telling everyone that I collected her and nine others their tuition fees. This happened last July 2009 when one of the faculty referred the incident to me. I was only laughing since the teacher knew and the school itself that I resigned as early as June 15, 2009.

I however, felt bad that students would have to make such grave accusation to cover their misdoings. I was also worried because although some of the students and faculty personally knew me, others do not. Somehow, there may persons who would actually believe the accusation.

I then made my position letter to the Vice President of Academics that never did I joke nor imply about borrowing or asking even a single cent from my students as this is definitely unethical and unprofessional. Funny though that some students and teachers borrow from me instead of the other way around.

The student and her father were severely argued by my fellow teachers telling them that I resigned even before the incident happened and that it was way out of my character.

How I wish VALUES can be strongly taught among students that INTEGRITY matters more than any amount of money.

Computer Vision Syndrome

Have you heard of Computer Vision Syndrome? It is a disorder brought by extended computer use 3 or more hours a day. This syndrome is characterized by strained vision, back and neck pain, wrist and shoulder pain among others.

As a programmer and IT educator, I spend more than six hours a day and night before my computer. I am however, gaining weight from constant sitting that somehow, I wish for best weight loss pills.

The problem with this syndrome is that it actually affects the productivity of employees and individuals. I could only agree more.

It is wiser then to take a break from computer usage and use computer that is user and health friendly.

Similarities and Differences of C, C++, C#

I first worked on programming through Turbo Pascal and went through C, C++ up to Foxpro for DOS and DBase 3+.

But, with all the evolution of programming languages over the years, somehow, C and C++ have remained but with different variands. Now, we have C#. I have not tried yet C# so, I checked what could be their similarities and differences.

C is the root of C++ and they both share similar syntax, functionality and library and data types. But, C# is the first component-oriented programming language from C/C+ family. C# supports multiple inheritance of interfaces but not classes.

School Excursion Helps

School field trips or excursions are usually part of school curricula. In IT Education Program, we normally bring our students to other cities where information technology infrastructures and works are highly evident and organized.

But, what I like best with field trip is I get to have a break from the classroom instruction and just have fun learning with my students who are usually on their wacky behavior and outfit. Some are simply outrageous with their fancy accessories, Dansko sandals and childish acts.

My former students shall soon be having their field trip in Cebu City. I was originally asked to go with them but since I resigned from teaching, I shall however, miss the fun. But, I am quite sure they will have a total blast.

Part - Time or Full - Time Teaching for Me?

I was invited by my former colleague in my old old school to join them in their school and have a full time load. This would mean rendering 24 hours of classroom teaching.

My friend-supervisor before however, offers me a part-time load and I will have the chance of managing our business and having time with kid.

I was tempted to take the full time load but this may mean depriving again my business and my family of the much needed time.

So, when my friend-supervisor assured me of the three (3) subjects for part-time teaching, I simply agreed to stay with them. My motivation is, money can just be earned through anything if I only set my mind to it. So, I want to earn through my business, teaching and blogging while enjoying my family in the process.

Cool Mac OS and Entertainment

Whenever I need a break, I take time to either play with computer games or listen to my iPod. But, I normally get bored with playing the same songs or the same games.

So, it is nice to know that there are mac games available for free trial and download and cool iPhone applications at very very reasonable rates.

I personally like puzzle games like world of goo for mac or mac solitaire that can do well during relaxation time.

I wish to add some applications to my iPod and perhaps, my students would love new games on their Mac PC's.

Getting Rusty with Programming

With four (4) months of passive programming, I become indeed rusty and lethargic with it. I shall have to review and read again my notes and some good programming books for the aged. hahhahahha! This is the typical problem with programming, you rest, you get dull.

I like the challenge of programming, it really drains your brain from too much thinking of the right solution. I wish to continue developing our store website for e-commerce.

Perceived Object Oriented Programming

When I was in college, we were using Dbase 3+ and migrated to Foxpro for DOS. The source codes for everything would have to be written from interface to functionality. It was a gruesome experience but I learned to use the commands and to realize the logic and solution through correct syntax and semantics.

But as technology evolve, so is programming paradigm. In school, we are employing C, C++ and JAVA as few of the object-oriented software. If I have to review OOP just like what experts give in their colon cleanse review, I find OOP easier in designing but difficult in bridging all the objects and forms and their backend together. I had this struggling experience when I made the General Ledger System of our store through JAVA Netbeans 6.1 with MySQL.

I am not an expert in Java programming nor in OOP but this new paradigm is way easier than the conventional programming methods employed by the old folks before.

Part - Time Teaching for Me

When I saw my old supervisor, she gave me subjects to take next semester. She wished to give me more but I told her that few subjects would be enough to fill my time together with the time I have to spend with business.

I was given loads on computer applications, software engineering and fundamentals of programming. These are light subjects to me since I had taught these for a year. I just have to search for my old notes and get some books from the library as soon as I start teaching again.

Teaching Again

I wish to go back to schooling and teaching because they require me to be mentally and physically active. Thus, I did not really gain much weight since I moved around inside the computer laboratory or in the lecture room and traveled much because my masteral school was in another city. Further, I did not give much attention to eating on time or much to gain the extra pound.

However, when I stopped teaching and started to sit behind a desk, I felt my bulges widening. I was also active with jogging and biking before but I suddenly became too lazy to do any exercise.

I wish to consider other alternatives to reducing weight by reading diet pill review and lifestyle change. If only I can be self-motivated again to do what I had been doing before.

Some Good Points to Ponder as a Software Developer

Software Development is never easy. Each programmer may have his own unique way of solving it and one can not at all underestimate the skills of a programmer except when you check his works and his codes.

When I was in college, we were only exposed to FOXPRO for DOS and it was all hard-coding of syntax and logic. But, technology changes as fast as software. So, I went through Visual Basic, then Java programming. All these in years interval; so, just imagine the struggle I went through with the shift but I did learn through tips and guidance of other experienced programmers, some trial -and- error works, and working only on the basic requirements first.

Somehow, these helped me keep my projects on time and working although not all decorative features are there but having a solid starting program is much better than all with styles but short with functionality.

But, it pays to have some good laughs from the tips and teachings of other developers. Do check the site of CODING HORROR.

Filter Table Records Through MySQL

In writing database systems, programmers would normally work with records of information stored in various tables in different databases. However, one of the basic functionalities of database operation is filtering for records. When we say, “FILTER,” it means that only certain records are picked out from the rest of the information just like refrigerator water filters or pool filters that remove unwanted elements from the rest of the stuffs.

With the increasing growth of MySQL as database platform, we use the command SELECT to filter out only records that meet certain conditions.

For instance, if from the table “Student,” I want only to display idnum equal to 20091010, I can type in my MySQL Query Browser:

SELECT * FROM ‘ENROLMENTDATABASE’,’STUDENTTABLE’ WHERE IDNUM=’20091010’;

Knowing SELECT command and its full clauses can be powerful tool in any database program. Do check your MySQL reference manual for complete syntax of SELECT.

Becoming A Teacher Again

I made my application letter today for a part time teaching in my previous school. I wish to give in my application as early as Sept in time for second semester. My direct supervisor promised me two or three subjects, and these are enough fillers so, I shall have a break from business in a weekly basis.

My application however, depends on the mood of the hiring officer. I only pray, he shall keep his words of having me still in spite of my immediate resignation last June.

Wish me good luck!

Websites Can Be Dreadful or Fun!

I actually have more than four (4) blogs, three (3) of which are of domain web hosting. The webhosting application was all easy and cheap at $10.00 annual subscription. I think the rate is reasonable enough. However, it was only at a later time that I have known a website that actually evaluates performance of web hosts against their criteria of technical support, reliability and price among others. If I have known more info earlier before I had my blogs got their domains, most likely, I would be getting cheaper rates at uncompromised performance.

My sister did not share similar convenience when she first applied her two (2) blogs under GoDaddy webhosting. She had been having technical problems that her blog traffic and earnings were severely affected. She could only ask for a money payback but the site explained the technical glitch and corrected it eventually.

I guess, the idea here is that big or small websites for commercial use or not should be given opportunities to be web hosted at better performance and support. Free webhosting is definitely most preferred, but not if I shall be getting all the pains and troubles of maintaining the sites. I don’t mind paying at all if I am assured of much guaranteed quality service.

How do I actually evaluate web hosts? I consider price, technical and time support, reliability, speed, storage and reviews of other users.

So, I appreciate that there is actually a free website that ranks web hosts according to criteria similar to my standards. It is only a frustrating revelation that my web host only ranks at the bottom part.

School Comeback!

In November, I shall go back collegiate teaching and to teaching young minds. I do miss the students a lot, although there are students who simply come and go to classrooms with no interest to learn at all. But, for me, teaching is a passion I can do without.

After months of break from classroom, I shall go back to where I am most comfortable with. However, I would want to do only parttime teaching. This will give me ample time to attend to my business and family.

I can only be excited for my comeback!

Computer - Related Health Problems

I have been working with computers for almost two (2) decades now. And, I sure have had my fair share of computer-related health problems.

Typical of these concerns include strained eyes, head, shoulder, neck, back and wrist pains. Further, unusual hygiene practice (staying too long that you tend to hold yourself from the regular baths and comfort room calls, hahhahahah!), stomach indigestion or spasms all because you miss most of your meals, basic hygiene calls and sleep.

But, when you are older, these unusual work habits can bring more problems than the ones experienced by the young.

At least, there are some companies now who do take care of their IT professionals, the way Seattle personal injury attorneys do.

When I started blogging, I spend 12-18 hours a day before my PC. So, I normally wake up each morning with a stiff shoulder and a deprived sleep.

To reduce if not eliminate these health issues, we can always take a break from our computer usage, and try other preventions like putting monitor filters, adjusting monitor resolutions, adjusting sizes and color, changing typing posture to name a few.

Cool 3D Movie Maker Software

Since my kid is quite hooked to movies and mostly, 3D stuffs, I can't help but be interested with how these movies are made. The movies lately have tremendously leaped from their conventional modes.

There are of course varying software on movie maker. However, I am not at all an artist, just an avid fan. And so, let me share to you BLENDER, another open source 3D movie maker that will surely captivate you and your techie taste.

Check one of their works below.

Go Lean in Teaching

After months of regular 8-hour sitting almost every day, I quite miss my school time where sitting is not almost allowed. I remembered wandering inside my classroom, checking on my students’ works, helping them whenever they need assistance, and pinching them when they are doing something else. They were college students alright but a little box on my male students and a light pinch on my girls seemed to amuse us all than irritate them. Hahahhahahah!

Now, I can only feel and see lumps on unwanted areas. I can only consider weight loss austin to do away with the bulges. I wish I can go back to jogging and biking once I get the time.

Missing My IT Masteral Studies

I did start with my second masteral degree in Information Technology last year. I hurdled through the hectic schedules of overloaded teaching loads with weekend masteral schooling in another city and business along the side. I finished one year of the program but had to stop last summer and this semester to give way for family and rest.

However, I missed the last year of my degree. So, I have to wait until next summer to finish what I have started last year.

My parents and sisters had asked me not to go schooling again but I simply want to earn the degree for my profession and growth. It was terribly difficult but just like any student, one can only persevere and work harder. I only wish I can also finish it.

My other classmates may have completed the program, but, what is more important is for me to earn my degree even how long it takes.AJA Rosilie!

Capture School / Work Moments

Normally, in schools and elsewhere , there are simply events and occasions that do require for technology to capture it. Although cellular phones are now equipped with camera and other features, one can’t entirely rely on the quality of these video or images that I still prefer digital cameras .

My family got ones but I missed my digital unit though. I must, however, scout for cheaper units so I can just place them in my bag for any school or office event. My students indeed sure love photo taking. Sigh, I quite miss them.

Avoid Brain-Damaging Habits

Adopted from an email.

1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2 . Overeating
It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking
It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our 20 body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6 . Sleep Deprivation
Sleep allows our brain to rest.. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells..

7. Head covered while sleeping
Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness
Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely
Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain
