Some Educational Plans and More

A normal parent would wish better future for his kid; better education, better friends, better living.

I would wish the same thing for my kid that is why when preneed insurance went wrong in the Philippines where a number of educational plan holders were denied of the educational privileges due them.

Somehow, we were affected by it since we took an educational insurance for my kid too. It is only relieving that the company has merged with a stronger one to save it up.

And, so with the fear for  insurance, other companies may require  more effective  insurance advertising  to boost.

Families do use insurance like educational plans to lighten  their paying obligations. We can only be more selective for better and stable insurance companies who can really continuously give what they did promise in the first place. Otherwise, families simply suffer together with the student.

Java's Inheritance

A parent class may pass on its data and methods to its child classes. This is the concept of Inheritance. In creating this relationship, the keyword extends is used.

See the example below for the application.

Some Practical Study Tips

As posted in my previous article, I did say that I feel too bad that my students had earned poor scores from their first term exam.  I feel so low as a teacher since student performance also speaks of how good or bad a teacher can be. Although, it may not be true at all times since a likable teacher  may not be a competent teacher too. Sigh, I only wish my students learn a lot from me and from their self - learning.

I did well as a student before and as a teacher for over a decade, let me share the following practical tips I personally find effective.

1. Work on assignments and other activities thoroughly. Sometimes, a book or two may not be enough to help you. Help from the knowledgeable may spell greater improvement too.

2. If things are not clear, discover  and rediscover them. It is better if a concept is understood than simply memorized, this way, one can work around the concept comfortably.

3. Prioritize schooling first among anything else.

4. Don't mind going the extra mile just to learn.

5. Have fun once in a while.

6. Study in advance. You will have that prime edge over your classmates and you can further comprehend the lesson better.

7. Go with friends who share the same priorities with you.

8. Use study room with ample resources, comfortable furnitures and light fixtures  for sustaining mood.

9. If you don't like the teacher, fine but don't hate the subject. Think that the teacher shall be done in a semester, but poor grades cant be undone.

I guess with the tips above, a good A grade can just be earned by anyone.

Poor Exam Results

Since I have a week to finish the checking of test papers and do the grades, I made use of my weekend until today to  complete test papers. Goodness, I am terribly upset because of the poor scores of almost everyone.

STI education system  is centralized that practically everything is from the headquarters to have an equal and similar preparations even for remote centers. However, the students in some distant areas are quite poor mentally that preparations against the time frame are not  enough.

I know I did well to deliver my content but just like any teacher that is constrained by time, I can only follow the courseware . I only wish my students can do more with their study habits and do better from their exams and other school activities.

Technical Courses

TESDA and CHED   had long created programs that are skill - oriented or skill - based including, computer troubleshooting, repair, network support, administration and more.

Schools do offer programs for shorter or regular schedule terms. And, since the rest of the countries do demand skilled workers, the schools and the government can only provide the media and network to develop the students, equip them with the right skills and meet global standards.

There are simply competency requirement among employees including adherence to quality, company goals, personal or organizational safety that safety glasses   are a must among many things.

But, there are graduates who are under - skilled, the schools and the government then must closely monitor the qualifications of our skilled workers, and graduates for better employment.

Pending School Test Papers

We are officially on school vacation because of the Christmas holidays. We shall resume on January 4, 2010. I could not however, find the time to check the prelims' test papers of  my college students since I am pretty hooked to Twilight Saga, business day and night. tsk! tsk! Tsk!

I hope in the coming days, I can be freed from my tiring routine and get back to my test papers and grades.

We are supposed to submit the prelims' grades when we get back to school. Sigh! I love teaching but sometimes, it can be very draining.

Web Hosting For Less

My sister had experienced again another distressful days when her domain blog was deactivated by a known site since it experienced some technical glitches. The same feedbacks were given to her by her visitors – friends. Thus, she complained again for the nth time to the domain provider. She had prior negative experiences with her other blogs that I told her to inform the web host for domain cancellation.

I could only sympathize with her since her blogs are used for earnings and with technical glitches like web hosting difficulties, she is  actually deprived of any potential income. Most likely, she will not simply renew the annual hosting.

Whenever I can, I tell my students that to choose a web host based  not only on the price but also on the features like reliability, technical support, speed, storage among many things.

And with Internet, there are simply too many web hosts but we can’t really tell the same performance for everyone. Good thing, there are reviews about web hosts. From these, a client can only choose the best service provider.

Further, I told my students that it can be cost – effective to go for best reseller hosting particularly web hosting choice. The features are the following:

• 24/7 Dedicated RESELLER Support

• Free Private Name Servers
• FREE Automated Billing
• Free Templates
• NO Contracts!
• Unlimited Money Back Guarantee
• Free INSTANT Setup

With the incentives above, one can only get the best worth for a very reasonable web host reselling rate.

In this great time of economic recession, it is only practical to get the most out of any service or product paid. We can only choose what can be most cost  - effective even for web hosting.

School Parties Everywhere and More

As I type, we are actually waiting for our Christmas school personnel party. Our school has officially announced their holiday vacation and shall resume January 4, 2010. Hurray!

I am not however, done checking with test papers as I consumed my days and nights reading the Twilight Saga. I have to be called a snob for putting these e-bookd on hold for a year when in fact they are just sitting in my notebook. But, watching the New Moon movie and not really appreciating it fully, compelled me to sack through my files. hahahhahaahh!

It will be a two - week vacation from classroom arrangement. Happy holidays everyone!

Teaching Students of Technology and Life

Teaching is never easy. Not only that it is underpaid, it is also overworked. But, I shall remain in teaching and will continue teaching even it means doing this on part - time basis. I did full time work in teaching for eleven years and I guess it is in my mainstream to teach among the young minds.

Now, that I have my business and tried a high - paying job, I won't give up the passion I have for this underpaid-overworked job.

Whenever I can, I relate academic lessons to real - life situations usually experienced by students. May these be relationships, other works, family or occasions. I believe building IQ and EQ is equally important.

And, I know I did well as I meet my student off campus over the years, they remain grateful and thoughtful. Sometimes, I get unexpected texts, calls or wedding invitations to share in their moments of fun or sad times.

I can only be prouder because I see them that they are ok and doing well. I may not have touched everyone's heart but I sure did my best for them.

Java's More Constructor

In my previous post, I wrote an example of a constructor in Java. Below is another application.

[+/-] show/hide

/**
*
* @author Rose
*/
import java.io.*;
public class CircleQuiz {
double radius;
double area, diameter;
CircleQuiz()
{ radius=1;}
public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException{

BufferedReader br= new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
CircleQuiz x=new CircleQuiz();
String str;
double r;

System.out.println("use of Constructors:");
System.out.println("Default radius from a constructor: "+x.getRadius());

System.out.println("New Input for radius:");
System.out.println("Input radius :");
r=Double.parseDouble(br.readLine());

if (r<=0)
r=x.radius;
x.setRadius(r);
System.out.println("Diameter "+x.computeDiameter(r));
System.out.println("Area"+x.computeArea(r)); }

double getRadius()
{ return radius;}

void setRadius(double x)
{ radius=x;}

double computeDiameter(double r )
{ double circleDiameter =r * 2;
return circleDiameter;}
double computeArea(double r )
{ double circleArea =3.14 * r * r;
return circleArea;} }

Soon School Vacation

It is Christmas season already, our school STI-Gensan, an extension of STI system has opened a booth together with the rest of the invited schools in city's open park to celebrabrate Magandang Gensan project of the Local Government of General Santos.

Different schools have portrayed a Transformer theme, while others a semi-castle type and a big tuna. The decorations are not yet fully done. I wonder if there is a booth that is all inclusive jamaica in theme.

This Magandang Gensan project is to at least start the happy occasion of the upcoming holidays.

The holiday vacation shall start in most schools on December 20. At least, this gives a two - week vacation from the daily teaching.

Java's Constructor

Constructors in Java allow physical creation of objects. We normally initialize them to default values. These may contain or not arguments as we create objects.

Take not however, that constructors follow the name of their respective class name.

Below is an example of a constructor application.

[+/-] show/hide

/**
*
* @author Rose
*/
import java.io.*;
public class Household {
int numOccupants;
double annualIncome;

//this a constructor
Household()
{ numOccupants=1;
annualIncome=0;}

public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException{

BufferedReader br= new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
Household x=new Household();
String str;
int numOcc;
double xincome=0.0;

System.out.println("use of Constructors:");
System.out.println("Number of Occupants "+x.getOccupants());
System.out.println("Annual Income"+x.getIncome());

System.out.println("After Use:");
System.out.println("Input number of occupants :");
numOcc=Integer.parseInt(br.readLine());

System.out.println("Input Annual Income: ");
str=br.readLine();
xincome=Double.parseDouble(str);

x.setOccupants(numOcc);
x.setIncome(xincome);

if (numOcc<=0)
x.numOccupants=1;
if (xincome<0.0)
annualincome=0.0;
System.out.println("Number of Occupants "+x.getOccupants());
System.out.println("Annual Income"+x.getIncome());

}

double getIncome()
{ return this.annualIncome;}

void setOccupants(int x)
{ this.numOccupants=x;}

double getOccupants()
{ return this.numOccupants;}

void setIncome(double x)
{ annualIncome=x;}

}
