Free Education

When economic crisis continues to plague most nations worldwide, it is not surprising that poverty line continues to accelerate.   Our public schools alone are swarmed by too many students with limited number of teachers and resources. And, when private schools continue with their tuition hikes, parents are left with no choice but transfer their kids to public schools that almost offer free education.

However, parents and students must be forewarned of cheaper schools as they may not guarantee quality education. This warning goes to anything that offers tremendous results at lesser fees. I have no significant qualms about these freebies but it can pay off if we can be vigilant with what we get, free or otherwise.

And, when obesity includes other social problems, the greater public is also advised against health - related diseases like diabetes. Thus, weight interventions like cosmetic surgery, exercise, special diet and weight - loss pills from reviews like  xyphedrine review can help a lot.

Cost of living is quite higher since  economic recession consumes nations across seas and struggling individuals can only maximize their opportunities while minimize their costs.

Promising Careers in 2010

My sister is officially enrolled this new school year, 2010 -2011, to pursue Hotel and Restaurant Management. This is a low - skill program where students don't have to drain their brains out just to make through.

The tourism industry continues to thrive in spite of economic setbacks, and with the right skills and personality, any HRM graduate can have a promising career.

I am positive that information technology and healthcare careers continue to top the list based on starting pays, but, when IQ, interest and budget are issues, you can only settle for something less but rewarding too.

This 2010, US Department of Labor lists the following promising careers:

according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Almost all of these careers are in computers or healthcare.
  • Computer software engineers, applications
  • Computer support specialists
  • Computer software engineers, systems software
  • Network and computer systems administrators
  • Network systems and data communications analysts
  • Desktop publishers
  • Database administrators
  • Personal and home care aides
  • Computer systems analysts
  • Medical assistants
  • Social and human service assistants
  • Physician assistants
  • Medical records and health information technicians
  • Computer and information systems managers
  • Home health aides
  • Physical therapist aides
  • Occupational therapist aides
  • Physical therapist assistants
  • Audiologists
  • Fitness trainers and aerobics instructors
  • Computer and information scientists, research
  • Veterinary assistants and laboratory animal caretakers
  • Occupational therapist assistants
  • Veterinary technologists and technicians
  • Speech-language pathologists
  • Mental health and substance abuse social workers
  • Dental assistants
  • Dental hygienists
  • Special education teachers, preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school
  • Pharmacy technicians

Cutting – Class Students

Classes for new school year will start again come June 15 and I am pretty sure that most parents and students along with the teachers are quite excited to hurdle through another year again.

But, while most students are interested in school, a good number is also delinquent and choose to be absent or cut from classes to join their friends or play around instead.

When I was still a program head, most of my delinquent students stayed in computer games center and fooled their families that they were in school on their uniforms and allowances. And,  next thing the parents knew about their kids, they  were paying humungous unattended school tuitions. Thus, as a responsible school, we called the parents for conference to at least do needed interventions.

The kids could have different reasons why they would rather miss school but the parents only endure the consequence and I  really feel for them.  Earning for tuition fees is no joke in the Philippines but the kids seem not to value  that.  Sigh!

Health Education Intensified

The Department of Health warns the public of common illnesses that most students contract especially that rainy season kicks in already. These include dengue, typhoid fever, colds and flu. The government officials along with Non - Government Organizations coordinate with school authorities to keep their surroundings clean and to intensify healthy living among  the youngsters.

It pays when individuals get knowledgeable of pressing concerns in the society. They get to make their own choices of addressing these concerns that best benefit them.

One of the other pressing health issue is obesity. With increasing death toll caused by ill lifestyle, doctors and other experts warn the public against too much eating, less exercise and other ill vices.

Thus, interventions like cosmetic surgery, exercise, special diet and weight loss pills like phentremine are highly encouraged.

The kids and I go to school every day and it will matter a lot if we don't get sick by mere infection. Authorities can only be proactive of these diseases that plaque students and school personnel.

More Teachers are Needed

With increasing number of students transferring to public schools, these institutions are swarmed with overcrowded students but with limited resources and teachers.

However, with meager compensation of public teachers, you can’t really expect to allure promising students to pursue education programs. The last time I heard, there was an increase that a new teacher – entrant has an average pay of 10000.00 for an 8 – hour/day work from Monday to Friday.  If a teacher is single and has no obligations at all, then this pay will suffice enough otherwise this new teacher will be one of those who suffer from too much loans because their pay can’t keep up with their living expenses.

I teach in a college school and with masters degree, my basic pay fall around 15000.00 but since I only teach parttime, I only get very small pay every other two weeks.  Teaching profession is indeed too much work but underpaid.

I read one article in Yahoo that even America lists teaching as one of the less – paying careers. Geez! We are really undervalued globally.

Public Schools to Expect More New Students Entrants

With tuition hikes among private schools, parents are forced to transfer their kids from private to public schools. And when tuition increases to as much as 30% with very low family earnings, I can’t really blame the parents. Thus, the government schools are enduring more and more entrants – new ones and transferees to hit the coming school year.

This indeed adds to the pressing problem of overcrowded classrooms with limited number of teachers and resources including books and classrooms. And, when teacher has greater number of students more than he can handle, you can’t really expect instruction can be as effective.

I hope families can enjoy more wages, fewer taxes  and quality public schools, so, kids can graduate with the right skills to equip them for better jobs.

Sex Education as Part of Basic Curriculum

As a leading catholic country in Asia, some political leaders and religious groups are in deep debate as Department of Education shall integrate sex education as part of basic curriculum among elementary and high school students.

With increasing rate of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies to affect younger and younger age, the education officials are only compelled to educate the kids more about consequences of sexual intercourse and alike.

Basic sex education is already taught even decades ago and was integrated in Science and Socio subjects. But, I guess the sex education that schools will be doing will be more intense. I quite  believe that this will help young ones to be taught and guided more instead of just leaving them to access Internet for misguided sex education.

Not all parents, however, can be that open minded. They want to protect their kids from  early exposure  to sex. But, if I remember it well, pediatricians suggest that sex education can be started as early as three years old.

Thus, with parents and teachers' guidance, the young ones can be taught of responsible sex education to include consequences of sex. Resources on  best testosterone creams  and others can  help students and mentors address sex - related concerns.

Even students from nice families get sexually abused or contaminated by diseases, and, unless they and the rest of the young ones are taught of sex education maturely, HIV and unwanted pregnancy rates shall continue to rise up dramatically.

School Classes to Start June 15

My fellow STI faculty visited our store a few days ago and I was only proud to show off our stocks. She did like our collection of shoes and bag but no available size fit her. I have to ask my in - laws to send shoes of different sizes.

I had the chance to query when the faculty would be and it’s set on June 1, my very birthday. LOL! We shall have our loading assignment on that day and I am not quite sure if I will still have the loadings although the last time, the college dean and I had a talk, he was planning to give me Java basics.

The kids along with my youngest sibling will have the classes  on June 15 as the official start and we are pretty excited although my kid would want to have his class start after his birthday on June 21. LOL! I guess he is really enjoying his vacation much.
I hope I can buy his things before classes start.

Young Students in Delinquent Crimes

With social and economic problems in my beloved Philippines, the national crimes continue to increase. And, what seems to be a hopeful change that new leaders will be installed officially this June 30, the election is still clouded with anxiety, doubt and possible fraud. I am simply one of the many Filipinos who clamor for deep change because even if I have a job, life is still difficult in the Philippines. So, just imagine if a family with three (3) kids are simply supported by one job holder on around Php 150.00-250.00 ($3 -$5) daily wage. I see two (2) meals with no promising food and limited to no schooling at all for the kids.

No wonder that every day, I can hear stories of brawl fights, delinquent crimes of  theft, robber, murder and drug trafficking among the kids. And, when parents are as hopeless, what do these kids have to live for.

I wish to have a comfortable life. Who isn't anyway? And, I remain hopeful that life ahead can be better. There is fast and free  life insurance quote    for retirement and health packages that anyone can use for.

I am only around 30's but I wish that my kid and nephews will grow well and away from any delinquent problem. I only hope that the government authorities and agencies find ways to contain and address the causes of juvenile rebellion and problems. Only then, juvenile - related outlaws can be solved.

Random Drug Testing among Elementary and High School Students

When what seems to be the problem of adults only, the youngsters are into drug addiction and prostitution as early as their elementary years. As a teacher, I can only feel compassion for these kids. I am pretty sure that they dont voluntarily submit themselves to addiction, but, due to poverty and family issues, they can be driven out to self destruction.

I hope families can guide their kids,  and provide them their rights. These kids are indeed wasting their future and they only become potential menace to the society. Unless, we all get to the bottom of their drug addictions and prostitution, we can help them better.

When these problems afflict the young ones, isn't the job of the old folks as responsible and mature individuals to correct the problems?

8 out 10 High School Graduates Can't Proceed to College

In a national report, I am once again disappointed of my nation's pressing dilemmas. Although the government has education the highest priority for budget, the issues around dropouts due to financial constraints can highly speak of expensive education in the nation but with poor economic living.

Aside from the fact that quality of education is another issue, majority of students cannot proceed to higher education because they cant afford their daily schooling allowances and tuition that in spite of almost free education, elementary and high students simply drop out from school. Thus,  crime and poverty rates increase.

This is indeed a vicious:  no diploma for a job, no work, no money, thus, they find illegal means to survive.  I hope that the government will truly find means to offer employment opportunities for the parents, cut living taxes, and improve the quality of education, so, graduates find better jobs.

My country is really in deep trouble and only my fellowmen are suffering.

Election – Serving Teachers Still Unpaid

The national election in the Philippines had concluded last May 10 and while some of the political candidates were already officially pronounced, some are still holding on.  Last time I read the news, 12 senators were already proclaimed while the president and vice – president seats still await final counting.
Indeed, the proclamation was fast but some teachers who had served during election time are still waiting for their small compensation. This is indeed quite dissatisfying knowing that teachers risked themselves during election period and had to endure long hours of sitting or standing just to guard the election returns and votes. I am quite sure they were heavily stressed from anxiety, fatigue, back and wrist aches,  joint pain  and their services are still unpaid.

I hope COMELEC can immediately compensate these teachers and give them their due incentives. And, government leaders must attend to these periodic problems from occurring.

What's Your Creative Power?

Your Creative Power is Your Intuition

You just seem to have a knack for knowing what's going to work.

You can't really explain your creative process. You just get started, and magic happens.

You have a lot of endurance, and you're a hard worker. Once you get focused on a project, you don't stop.

You are a trendsetter, and you seem to understand what people love. You are very forward thinking.

Rainy Season Risks Schools Again

Summer’s extreme heat is officially over as El Nina kicks in bringing heavy rains already in the middle of May. And, government agencies prepare already for the drawbacks of heavy rains once typhoons and storms fill the rest of the months. A number of Filipinos had endured and died from the onslaught of Ondoy and Pepeng last year and I am quite sure that they haven’t recovered yet.

Normally, rainy days fill between June and August, and those whose schools are made of dilapidated materials, they can only anticipate flood and rooms’ rain pour again.  Some affected schools have to be closed down for several days until the water can fully subside.

And, those students and teachers who don’t have the luxury of 4 – wheel transportations can only soak in dripping uniforms.

I hope the schools can  have their classrooms repaired before rainy days can come in full bloom.

Teachers as Mothers

Statistics says that the teaching profession is one of the most underpaid professions worldwide, however, in spite of these major drawback, teachers remain committed with their professions.
For one, I remain in teaching for 12 years and still counting not because of financial gains knowing that the salary is not even enough to sustain a family but for the fact that I contribute to shaping the future of the kids. This is the knowledge that no amount of compensation can pay.

Thus, it is not surprising that teachers build parental bonding with their students. I normally receive text messages, greetings, gifts and red roses on occasions like birthdays, holiday seasons and Mother’s day.  And these come from my students of different schools in a span of 12 years. I can only feel warmth, gratitude and honor.

And, even if students leave the portals of their schools, they continue to remember their great and worst teachers and when one day, they bump to their old mentors, no other delight can mentors feel other than the fact that their students have done successfully in their chosen career.

Government Agency DTI Warns the Public against Price Hikes of School Things

With only few weeks to go, parents and students start to swarm the malls and other stores for cheaper school things such as bags, notebooks, pens and uniform. However, as a businessman – teacher, this is an occasion for other entrepreneurs to increase substantially their products and services. Thus, the Department of Trade and Industry suggest retail prices for basic school  things. This will guide parents of average prices on their students’  needs and avoid stores that overkill their prices.

However, parents are also forewarn of substandard quality  of cheaper school stuffs. Common sense and experience say that not all bargains are big savings.

As a parent, I can only be smarter.

School Brigade All Year Round

Elementary and high school teachers normally enjoy two months of no class with pay. But, along with this vacation, they have to render service to clean out in their classrooms and redecorate if needed.
However, not all schools are blessed with enough teachers, classrooms and books. In fact, some students have to have their classes under the shade of trees  or  in other open areas. And with increasing tuition fees among private schools, parents have to send their kids to public schools causing the population to even bloat than necessary. The teacher - student ratio now comes to 1:60 students when the ideal is only 1:40. Some teachers have to traverse rivers and mountains just to hold classes in secluded areas.  These scenarios are quite typical in my beloved country.

Thus, I can laud the efforts of the government commission on education to hold school makeover all year round.  I only hope that the quality of education gets better especially with new leaders installed come June 30.

Countless Schools but Compromised Education

Instituting a school has become the favorite of those who have resources. In General Santos City alone, there are eight (8) known colleges, two (2) universities, and too many vocational schools offering short courses. I find this good because students have many options to choose from and schools only have to deliver low tuition.

However, when we consider employment statistics to be an indicator of quality education, my city and the rest of the national places fall short. Graduates alone have poor communication skills that they cannot qualify even for low – skill job like call centers.

Thus, parents and government agencies must collectively and strictly be vigilant of schools that don’t meet quality standards. Periodic reviews are necessary to ensure that conformance to quality is sustainably attained.

Reviews like colon cleansing reviews are form of control to make the general public aware of services and products are worthwhile, safe and effective otherwise entities rob the public of their customer rights.

I only hope that schools and programs that don’t produce employed graduates must be placed under strict assessment, and be closed down if needed otherwise they become predecessors of cheat and injustice.

Summer Days are Over but First Semester Enrolment Heats Up

Most of colleges and universities nowadays are done with their summer classes. I am pretty sure students  are savoring their short vacations while first semester is holding up until June 15. Teachers are however, busy with completion of grades and submission of summer requirements before really enjoying a short vacation until classes again resume.

I am just waiting for my school to call for an assembly and give the subject loads. I specifically asked only for two subjects, so, I can attend to business, writing, and family works.
I just don’t know how I can make through with 24/7 time only to manage with.

Technology - Assisted Education

Since school time is coming, teachers in all levels are quite busy already preparing their programs and classroom  teaching materials.  I am pretty sure  that they make use of  conventional media while most of the teachers make use already of technology including computers, projectors, cameras  and all.  The schools are normally up to  buy memory, printers, more computer units, theater systems and all to make teaching instructions more effective. Normally, the preparations are for the entire school year, although they have to be broken into specific details for shorter periods.

Teaching is quite tough and requires time to prepare. As a teacher for over a decade, I can get used to the works but somehow, it still burns me out.  At least, using technology, preparations can be lighter and easier.

We can always be loving and sensitive teachers but it will be better if we can become smarter and use technology to aid our teachings.

Hunt for School Things

In few weeks, the school in all levels shall officially start and some commercial establishments are already filling their stacks for school things.

My kid started to even bother me to buy him bags and all. He along with my nephew are already excited to see their teachers and classmates.

I am pretty sure that parents and students will swarm the stores for best buys. We shall do our buying most likely before June kicks in, that way, we don't have to beat the crowd to head to the cashier's lane.

Amidst this school and economic crisis hypes, it is always wiser to hunt only for cheaper school things for greater savings.

Values Education Among Philippine Politicians

The 2010 national election was already over and some provinces and cities have already proclaimed their victors. However, the presidential, vice presidential and senatorial posts are still to be officially filled. Some candidates have conceded already to the victors while other candidates opted to file file protests or simply chose to close their mouths and accept their defeats.

I can commend the fine gentlemen who accepted their defeats with pride and honor as I detest politicians who seemed to cling to their old posts like leeches. In spite of automation, fraud is always attached to losses. Why can't they just accept their defeats? This I cant really fathom.

I quite hope that whoever shall be elected for the national positions, total change and cooperation shall be attained. This nation has long been suffering; it is high time that these politicians serve the public's interest first above all.

Vote Count Knowledge

The day is over for national election and we only anticipate the results of the election from national and local precincts. For now, only Aquino leads the presidential race while Binay on the vice - presidential race. However, the results are still partial covering only 38% of the total population.

With the automated election vote casting and counting, results are simply quick. I wish everything can be done as quick as a finger snap. But, I heard there is  quick trim   to help cut down the weights in a flash. People will simply love to see impressive weight - loss results  immediately.

When results are considered the best, time can be quite crucial too. The election results will be finalized in two (2) days compared to weeks of counting from old traditional election. I only hope that this election will be less violent and less fraud than the old ones so that country recovery can be totally achieved. We can only anticipate with hope.

Are Summer Tutorials Good?

When students have learning disability, it is only natural that parents intervene through putting their kids under tutorial services. This is quite good especially if resources and time will allow it.

My kid has his own learning problems and I wish to get a tutor for him as soon as he can this second grade. I could have taught him myself considering I am a college teacher but elementary education is quite unique that only a specialized teacher can do the job best.

Normally, summer times are used for summer tutorials on academics, art skills or physical sports. The kids however make use of their time playing with one another, other kids, their gadgets, and beach swimming.
As soon as they are back to school, their recreational time shall be back to normal again, that is, no PSP games and TV off at 9pm.

I wish my kid will excel in school but I don’t want to deprive him of fun too. So, I guess balance will be the thing.

Freshmen Dilemma

Now that enrolment for the first semester is up, most of the college freshmen face typical problems like choosing the best school and picking the right course.

I remember well that my father discouraged me to take an education course because he believed that there is no future for teachers. I could not blame him as teachers in the country are quite underpaid but overworked. So, I took Computer Science; I feared seeing blood and hated English too but I favored Mathematic well that Computer Science seemed a better option. It did do me well but I still end up as an IT teacher. LOL! Now, I do what I have been wanting to do, teaching. Hahahahhah!

I forced my other siblings though to take electrical engineering and education. They both graduated from the courses and earned their licenses but only my youngest sister puts her degree into good use. Now, I have another say to my youngest sister, she is only inclined to business, but wanted to take HRM. I can only advice her to take double courses so, she can help manage the business and do what she loves to do also.
Thus, for students who are still distressed as to what school or course to pursue, it wont hurt if they consider these criteria: job opportunities, quality education, budget, and personal preference.

I Love Teaching But. . .

Teaching is one of  the underpaid but overworked professions in the Philippines. In fact, my pop  originally discouraged me to pursue  education degree before simply because there is no future in education making me took Computer Science instead.

But, in spite of my IT course, I opted to teach still IT. hahhahahah! I guess teaching is just in my heart. But, in spite of the love I have for this course, I can't deny that there are indeed occupational hazards for us  teachers.

Most of the problems include strained vision, chronic backpains,  crammed legs, work stress,  and mental and emotional workload.

I was originally advised to wear eye glasses to address my  eye problems and some anti wrinkles and cocoa butter stretch marks for the aging and work constraints.

Further, most of the teachers who are single, remain single because they simply dont have time to look for any romantic relationships.

This profession needs a life for the teacher themselves but teaching is their way of life that all these drawbacks seem insignificant.

Seeing Students

It has been over a month since the last class and now that classes will soon start for first semester, I can only be excited.

I spend my class vacation at our store but most of the time, while waiting for customers to come in, I simply write articles and blog posts. At least, they keep my time busy.

Somehow, when I wander around the malls in between my article writing and business, I somehow stay with my kid and simply have light time amidst power interruptions.

But, as I do this, I happen to see my old students too. Some would ask me to be with them, I can only help my grin. Hahahahhahah! Not all students are academically good; In fact, some are simply too delinquent, but you cant help but love them too

I wish I will have a better school year this 2010-2011.

Teaching Soon

I gave my reapplication to my present school employer, STI. They wanted me to go fulltime but I want to attend to the business too and to my kid. Thus, I chose to have only a parttime arrangement with them. Somehow, having a one or two subjects will be ok.

My present dean shall assign java programming again but this time, it will just be Java Basics. I wish that the loads will be lighter as we will soon have our mall business in place.

I may opt not to teach but I just love this job.

Playing with Students

When I was still teaching in Zambonga, I was both a teacher and a program head. But, playing a motherly role was quite special to me and to my students. The bonding then was stronger than just following a dean.

But, whenever we had our sports intramurals, I had the chance to join them during their practices. I guess it was one of those times when I was happy that I chose to teach although there were times, I could only feel burned out.

I had my chances too of playing with them just to get m weight down. Although my husband and I enrolled to a gym program for some  ab workouts   to eliminate the extra lumps.

After seven (7) years though of being with the school, I left for another city and now I am connected with a new school. They wanted me to come back but I simply have happy times with my family.

My Well – Wishing Students

It was Mother’s day yesterday, May 9 and after giving my warm greetings and kiss to my mom, I started giving well wishes to my mom – friends.

I even gave my greetings to my old dean who happens to be an old maid but I warmly consider as my second mother while I was in Zamboanga for seven years. My son even called her Lola Dean. She is a family to us and my mentor. She was quite touched after wishing her every year.

But, I am more touched that my students from my old schools gladly wish me their Mother’s Day greetings. I pray that they are always happy and that their future promises good things only.

This is the very reason why I cant give up teaching, it just warms my heart to be loved and to love the students.

Voting Education

We are heading to Manila to visit my siblings while the entire nation is having the national and local election.
I only pray that the election will be free from any form of fraud and violence. There are indeed hot spots where election – related violence is gravely imminent.

My family in other areas are even witness of politicians giving out money to ensure that they shall be voted. But I only hope that voters will really be wisest this time otherwise we endure another six long years of economic and political turmoil.

This nation is quite far from full development because we keep on voting the wrong people. The Filipinos are known for persistence and intelligence, I hope that this time, all the right values fall into place, so, the right leaders are chosen.

We can only hope for a change and each vote indeed counts.

First Semester Enrolment on the Go

When May comes, students are then scheduled to have their first semester enrollment. Some students have long done with their enrollment albeit  some are still on vacation waiting to have their own turn.In fact, my other sibling  has still return from her vacation to go through the enrollment interviews.

Normally, schools do provide enrollment flowcharts to guide their students. At least, this makes the process easier. But, possible problems normally happen when grades are not complete or when students do have failing marks, these can make enrollment longer.  Not to include that power interruptions overwhelm the entire Mindanao.  The extreme weather conditions don't at all make the days less grumpier. I wish we can have a dehumidifier to lighten the heat.

I am pretty sure the students are getting excited to see their friends, classmates and teachers. It will only be a matter of weeks when I can finally see my own students. LOL!

PCOS Voting Education

Come May 10, the entire nation will be making a significant mark in the entire Philippine history as we conclude the election the full automation using The PCOS machine. This promises fast and cheat - free (almost) election.

But, up to this date, we are still experiencing PCOS - related problems including PCOS machines not reaching all the target election areas. Further, we are bombarded with power shortage, PCOS machine inaccuracy, political killings, and voters' education.

Not all Filipino voters are computer literate, thus, voting can be a little uncomfortable for them. Thus, COMELEC and other entities continuously educate the nation, although, I say they are only covering a small percentage of the entire voter populace.

But, the general tips for casting the vote include,

1. create a voting guide of all to be elected politicians
2. shade fully or at least 3/4 of the space
3. select only the correct number of candidates
4. (my own opinion) vote wisely

Philippine Automated Election at Risk

It will be three (3) days from now when the first fully automated election will be put to use come this Monday.  IT experts of course had long welcomed the idea but anxieties always overwhelm the nation. Fraud seems too natural for  all the elections that we have had. Our political leaders are always marred with dishonesty and ill perceptions.

But, the prevailing fear nowadays are the possible failure of the PCOS machine on the right counting of national and local votes. In the recent testings of PCOS machines, they failed to count well the votes. This can indeed cause nationwide anxiety and a way to contest election results.

Thus, politicians and IT experts would want to do the parallel voting where manual scheme shall go along with the automation. But, I personally dont see any hope also on this method since if the votes won't match, it can be a total disaster for everyone.

I just pray that politicians will accept their victory humbly and their losses with dignity. Until this election can be totally fraud - free and that Filipinos will be intelligent voters, this May 10 election wont make any difference at all in changing the direction of this nation. God help us!
