DepEd Prohibits Lavish Graduation Rites

Department of Education Secretary Armin Luistro reminded school heads to keep graduation ceremonies spartan from lavish spending to include grand ceremonies and expensive venues.

He stressed that appropriate sanctions should be given to school heads and personnel who violate the DepEd Order No.8, series of 2005  which prohibit from collection of graduation fees or any contribution connected to graduation rites.

Further, a collection for graduation yearbook is strictly voluntary. DepEd Secretaary Luistro pointed out that "graduation should be an occasion for parents and students and not as a medium for political motives."

This year's Graduation Rites are centered around the theme  "Your Gift of Learning, Our Tool for Nation Building."
