When Teachers Retire

According to the government mandate of Revised Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Act of 1997 or Republic Act 8291, the retiring age of government employees shall be 65 years of age and 60 for optional retirement.

While the government of the Philippines has amended the salary packages of teachers ranging now from PHP 16,000.00 to PHP 28,000, for others, this salary still falls short that some resort to loans among other means.

A typical job for teachers would require them to work from 730am to 5pm, and have to hurdle through school papers and teaching visual aids that it has become a regular sight on teachers to see them on designer reading glasses or on conservative fashion.

The teaching profession has remained noble when they have to teach a 40-60 student-filled classroom or even the lack of roofs.

With better salary package, it is hoped that teachers in number shall double to fill the increasing number of students enrolled in government schools.
